In Spokane County several agencies have partnered to provide housing opportunities and work-related services. Participants are helped by these programs:
SHARPP is the overall lead agency (Spokane Homeless Assistance Response and Prevention Partnership) which oversees HGAP (Homeless Grant Assistance Program), operated by Goodwill Industries in cooperation with Volunteers of America's housing services and Transitions housing for women. Mentoring After-school Program for Success (MAPS)
At MAPS we like to have fun! We facilitate interactive, age appropriate games and activities for youth in grades 3-6 at two Spokane elementary schools, Holmes and Roosevelt. Through these fun activities students and mentors develop friendships while improving their problem solving skills, increasing their social skills, and expanding upon their communication skills.
Join us after school one day per week for the academic year. You choose Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursdays from 3:00pm to 4:00pm. We are accepting applications for volunteer mentors ages 15 to 115. Mentoring with MAPS is fun, it helps students develop important life skills, and it looks great on your resume!
